Identity thief is the fastest growing criminal act in the United States and the Medicare Administration is helping this activity by providing criminals easy access to one of the most useful pieces of information, our social security number, used to accomplish this criminal act. Nearly all other government agencies have converted the identification methods to a system NOT related to a person Social Security number. Why has this not changes years ago.
This petition requests that Medicare immediately change its claim number system and cease using Social Security numbers for this purpose.
