Adolescents who are convicted of a felony assault, battery, manslaughter, or murder in the act of bullying another adolescent should have the option of military duty as an alternative sentencing once the adolescent has reached 17 years of age. Historically, military duty has been used as an alternative sentence for non-violent offenders. I would like to see this expanded to violent bullies to try and rehabilitate a young offender through service to their nation. The hope is that by participating as a soldier, they will develop a sense of civic duty that will allow them to make better choices in their future and allow them to interact normally with peers.
