Bulk mail, direct mail and junk mail in general is wasteful, annoying and impossible to get rid of since the USPS does not allow for any form of opt out.
According to the NYT and DoNotMail.org the USPS delivered 212 Billion pieces of junk mail as of 2009 with less than 40% being recycled.
This resulted in 51.5 million metric tons of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere - enough to power 13 million homes for the winter.
44% of these mailings end up in landfills unopened.

The USPS is pushing to increase the volume of junk mail to generate revenue at the expense of the environment and against the best interests of their customers.
It's time to allow Americans to opt out.
