Comprehensive sex education teaches students vital information not taught in abstinence only models. It equips students with knowledge about how to properly and safely use birth control/contraceptives as well as the potential health risks to having unprotected sex and sex with multiple partners. All public schools should be required to teach this curriculum; not only has this model of sex education been proven to lower the amount of unplanned pregnancies, it's also increased the age in which teens start to become sexually active, reduces the number of partners a person will have in their lifetime, helped to lower the spread of STI's, increased the use of protection during intercourse, and has educated students to be able to make wiser and more informed decisions about sex.
