Most people in this country expect to see the small increase in their pay after working on a national holiday (such as the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, etc.), but few people realize that the pay increase (of usually 1.5x or "time and a half") is entirely voluntary of their employers, and many of those in the working class (especially those in the service industry) are not only expected/required to work on all major holidays, but will not be provided anything extra for the added sacrifice of time away from their friends and family on this special occasion - not even on Christmas. I think we should sign into law a mandatory 1.5x "holiday pay" for any/all national holidays as part of a government standard minimum wage.
