Imagine taking your car to a mechanic, and over time getting billed individually for each test, oil disposal, tire rotation, cleaning ... one visit and lots of individual bills. Understanding costs would be complex, perhaps impossible.
That may sound ridiculous, but that's exactly what happens when you go to the doctor or hospital. Over time you'll get bills from multiple doctors, departments, labs, technicians, and more. Good luck trying to figure out exactly what you are paying for.
We need a "Single Invoice for Medical care, Physicians, Labs, Etc." (S.I.M.P.L.E.). Unfortunately, this was not mandated as part of the AHA. But it's not too late. If citizens are to better manage their healthcare costs, they need a S.I.M.P.L.E. view of those costs.
Mandate S.I.M.P.L.E. medical billing!
