By mandating the use of Standardized job applications (hard copy & eVersion, too), the Administration can give a significant gift of time to those unemployed or under-employed amongst us at what is likely to be only nominal cost (and that likely would be offset by internal efficiencies to be gained).
Instead of requiring applicants to complete different applications with the same information that all employers want (name, address, phone, email, education, work history, salary history, etc.) but in different formats, employers should be required to accept both hard copy and electronic versions of standardized applicant profiles. They can optionally require supplemental applicant information, but none that duplicates the information in the standardized profile except for key fields.
