The nation has seen an uptick in violent crime in recent years, most recently the massacre of 26 innocent adults and children in Newtown, CT.
It is a well held notion that exposure of the perpetrators of these crimes may be leading to more crimes. Along with that, it is harmful to the families of the victims when more coverage is paid to the criminal than the victim.
It is proposed that, following a crime of national significance, exposure of the perpetrator be limited to the use of the last name. This means eliminating the use of pictures, manifestos, personal details, and the like.
Many of these criminals are out to make a name for themselves. By limiting exposure on television and internet news sites, they will not receive the satisfaction.
