Mandate the use of commas when displaying numbers in any publicly accessible area, including the web.

Created by S.M. on January 11, 2013

Recently I have noticed that designers are dropping the use of the comma in large numbers. I regularly see numbers that are 7, 8 and even 9 digits without any commas. This is happening more and more on the web, in digital media and in print media.

It is an abomination. Without government intervention I worry that the comma may be lost to us altogether.

I am proposing that we introduce legislation mandating the use of commas in all numbers that are greater than 3 digits in all public places. In Quebec they mandate the use of both French and English in order to preserve the French language and French culture. We need to preserve the civility that comes from using commas in an appropriate way in the display of large numbers.

I don't want my kids to grow up in a world without commas.
