Veterans separating from the military sometimes choose to reside in a state other than their original residence before entering the military. When applying to college, they are categorized as out-of-state students. The Post 9/11 GI Bill will only pay the maximum in-state tuition, which may cause Veterans to be unable to attend the school of their choice.
Example: a Veteran enters the service as a Florida resident and moves to Indiana after separating from the military. The Veteran applies to Purdue University. He is labeled as a nonresident student. The Post 9/11 GI Bill will cover less than half of the $28,794 that is charged for nonresident students.
Our Veterans should not have to get loans to help pay for their education after the sacrifices they have made for this country.
