With an international community that is increasingly globalizing, it is becoming ever more important to protect our children from diseases that may be brought in from international travelers. Recent outbreaks like the Measles outbreak in Disneyland California of 2015, which became a multi-state issue, highlight the possibilities for a disease to rapidly spread throughout the United States. Information from the Centers for Disease Control indicates that this Measles outbreak primarily infected unvaccinated individuals, and the outbreaks started because an infected traveler brought the disease into the United States. By mandating mandatory vaccinations in children, we will be able to protect one of our most vulnerable populations.
