Persons over the age of 70 should be required to re-take both the written and driving portions to retain their automobile licenses. This should be performed every 2 years until the individual no longer wishes to drive. This step is necessary to prevent motor vehicle accidents involving themselves or others.
It is a known fact that individuals over a certain age will no longer exhibit the same vision, hearing, spacial perception, etc. that they may have had 10-20 years prior.
Mandating the retest will reduce many traffic accidents that are caused by the elderly directly but, more importantly, the accidents/fatalities that are indirectly caused because of motorists needing to evade these individuals on the roads
