We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Mandatory drug and alcohol testing of police officers immediately after officer involved shootings

Created by L.S. on July 10, 2016

Police officers should be beyond reproach and those who discharge their guns at an officer involved shooting which results in either a fatality or injury, should be mandatorily drug tested immediately after the incident in question---within 8 hours. The results should be court-admissible. According to the Washington Post, there were 990 fatal officer-involved shootings in 2015 and almost 491 officer-involved fatal shootings in 2016. Police officers need to be tested after the shooting because drugs can hinder decision making abilities, including whether or not to draw a gun and discharge the weapon. Testing for opioids, meth, steroids, cocaine, marijuana and alcohol is imperative. Mandatory testing after officer involved shootings should not replace the policy of random drug testing.
