Mandatory Labeling for Genetically Engineered Foods

This petition is to encourage Congress to act toward implementing mandatory food labeling of genetically engineered foods. The FDA does very little toward regulating genetically engineered foods, and there is mediatory labeling process for these ingredients. This issue needs to be brought to the attention of the public and to Congress. Genetically engineered foods pose as an unknown risk and it should be in the consumer's rights to know what it is their food. This mandatory labeling process could be implemented for any product containing more than 1% genetically engineered ingredients, it could also specify as to what kind of genetic engineering was performed on the crop, and could provide a link, for the FDA site about genetically modified foods, directly on the label.
