Gun advocates state that gun safety is the solution to stopping gun violence. Most Americans however believe we have to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Unfortunately, passing these laws is difficult due to the power of the gun lobby. Therefore, I ask the administration to pass laws requiring mandatory minimum prison time for gun owners whose guns are used in a shooting by someone else. Since gun advocates profess that gun safety is the answer, then they should have no problem with mandatory prison time for negligent gun owners. Many shootings involve a shooter using someone else's gun, most notably the Sandy Hook tragedy. These gun owners negligently give the shooters access to their weapons. It's time to hold negligent gun owners accountable for their actions.
