In 2016, U.S. Presidential Candidate Donald Trump publicly committed a felony offense when he violated the Logan Act.
Trump asked the Russian government to commit cyber espionage against his political opponent, the former Secretary of State and by extension the American people. In a broadcast, Trump stated: “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing." By alerting Russia to information sensitive to United States and asking Russia to find it constitutes a clear violation of federal law and a concern to our national security.
