In the media, stop wrongfully referring to sporting rifles as "assault rifles".

Created by C.M. on January 19, 2013

Ever since the Sandy Hook tragedy, the media has been wrongfully calling what are really sporting rifles, assault rifles. An assault rifle is a fully-automatic magazine fed rifle used by the military, and they are illegal to own by the civilian population. Where as a sporting rifle, which can too be a magazine fed rifle, is only a semi-automatic rifle or a single shot rifle. According to CNN's "Newtown shooter's guns: What we know" article, the shooter used a Bushmaster AR-15 assault-type rifle. Again, ASSAULT-TYPE, not a full assault rifle. The article even said: "Unlike the military version, the AR-15 is a semiautomatic, firing one bullet per squeeze of the trigger." which is a legal weapon to own, and is not classified as an assault rifle. The media needs to get there words straight.
