In the spirit of the original intent of the tenth amendment, and because the electorates or legislatures of 18 states and the District of Columbia have voted to legalize marijuana for medical use, the signers of this petition ask that the federal government amend federal law so that cultivation, possession, sale and use of marijuana for medical purposes shall no longer be a federal offense, thus permitting the individual states to decide on the legality of said activities, and also permitting citizens to engage in said activities without fear of federal prosecution.
The signers recognize the constitutionally stated duty of the federal government to regulate interstate commerce, including interstate transport of marijuana, and to regulate the transport of marijuana across our borders.
