President Obama has met on numerous occasions with representatives of the natural gas industry, but has not addressed the concerns of the American citizens who live in the areas where hydraulic fracturing occurs, nor even consulted with scientific experts. It is urgent that our President hear from experts regarding fracking, as well as hear what those whose lives are so severely impacted by this practice.
President Obama has given fracking a place of prominence in his energy policy without considering the impact. Methane leaking into the atmosphere is 105 times more dangerous than the pollutants produced from burning coal. Well heads leak 17% of their mined methane. Wells are poorly engineered, and aquifers are polluted irrevocably. The lives of Americans are more important than profit.
