Mass murders and shootings, like the one that just occured in Newtown, CT could possibly be prevented! Our mental health system is broken. Yes, those who are homicidal or suicidal are held for 72 hours, or sometimes a bit longer, but they are released and many stop taking medication. As a result, we have too many psychotic, mentally ill people roaming the streets. We need to enpower our mental health physicians with more flexible and supportive laws, to either hold these people longer, or mandate medication. Our doctors and law enforcement have the expertise to "profile" and predict the most dangerous among us. We need new, strict laws to protect the public from people who are delusional and non-compliant with their psychiatrist. Most of these shooters had odd behavior in advance.
