The use of nuclear energy in place of other energy sources helps to keep the air clean, preserve the Earth's climate, avoid ground-level ozone formation and prevent acid rain. It is the only feasible alternative to coal which may satisfy current energy demand.
From a land use perspective, multi-reactor nuclear power plants produce electricity in quantities that would require over 60 square miles of photovoltaic panels, and anywhere from 15 to over 180 square miles of wind turbines.
