at minimum remove 'food' designation from non-nutritional items such as gum and energy drinks. Prohibiting EBT purchase.

Created by C.H. on November 17, 2012

Currently, taxpayer money is being spent on unnecessary food purchases such as gum and energy drinks. One can go as far to include impulse register items like routinely buying candy and sodas. Perhaps a thorough reconsideration of items is too big a step for this program which has been growing in both number of dependents as well as the time length that people rely on it. At minimum, we request a removal of gum and energy drinks from the 'food' items that are registered to be paid for by the program previously called Food Stamps; now know as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
