A flat minimum wage is a bad idea because large companies abuse it to weed out competition. Contrary to popular belief, large companies actually WANT an increase in minimum wage. They want this because they know that they are large enough to take the hit; but many other smaller businesses are not. By Increasing the minimum wage large companies decrease competition and strengthen their hold on their respective markets. This is why there should be a system that assigns a minimum wage based on the monetary value of a business. If the business is worth more then they should pay their workers more and vice versa. This will decrease the start up costs for new businesses as well as create jobs. It will also help smaller businesses compete with larger ones by giving them a small advantage.
