The global response to the recent outbreak of Ebola in the West African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has been described as inadequate at best, and neglectful at worst.
As the virus continues to burn uncontrollably through these countries, it threatens not only regional stability and economic growth, but has positioned itself to spread beyond West Africa and become a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, as recently declared by the World Health Organization.
With a fatality rate over 50% and a situation on the ground that has been described as "dire," we call upon the nations of the First World to mobilize and provide the region with the equipment and personnel needed to treat patients, trace contacts, spread information, and support the local governments.
