modernize telecommunications infrastructure

Created by A.K. on January 18, 2013

America currently ranks 12th in global internet speeds. The future of our innovation based economy relies heavily on our ability to access information via the internet. If we do not have a modern infrastructure in place we will lag behind other countries and become not competitive in the global marketplace. Currently, Google Fiber has been implemented in Kansas City with modern (1 Gbps) speeds available at competitive prices. We need this type of connection available at a national level. The current estimated cost to create a national fiber network is 140 billion dollars.

This petition is for the federal government to create a national 1 Gbps fiber network. The initial funds (140 Billion) will be paid back in the form of subscriptions over a number of years.
