The ADA regulations as they stand today allow for unscrupulous attorneys and their clients to file thousands of lawsuits against small businesses for the purpose of extortion.
The ADA as it stands does not protect small businesses from these individuals/firms. The act should be modified to allow for a grace period (for example 60 days unless permits or other permissions are required which require more time) so that a business can expend its resources to actually fix/modify its premises and solve the deficiencies instead of being subjected to statutory penalties.
If the alleged violations are not corrected then the civil penalties should be in place.
