MODIFY FICA'S TAX BURDEN ON THE WORKING CLASS BY EXEMPTING THE FIRST $60,000 OF INCOME BUT CHARGE 8% FOR INCOME ABOVE IT

Created by S.E. on February 02, 2014

For many years, the burden of paying FICA taxes has been borne by the poor working class. Unlike other taxes that are progressive in nature, and charge a progressively higher rate to our wealthiest citizens, FICA does the opposite. It charges our poorest workers up to 12.4% on the very first dollar they earn, up until the point where they earn $117,000, which is where the tax is no longer assessed. All persons above this level earn income that is EXEMPT from FICA. Although half of FICA tax is usually split between an employee and an employer, all "Self Employed" persons must pay it in full. I would argue, that this is THE MOST UNFAIR TAX in America, because it clearly puts a burden on all budding entrepreneurs and the working class poor. This petition would amend tax law accordingly.
