modify the online petitions to allow us 3 months to collect the 100,000 signatures, rather than the current 1 month.

Created by K.K. on February 21, 2013

The 100,000 signature requirement is a good way to ensure that the petition is popular enough to merit a response. However, giving petitioners only a month to collect those signatures makes it hard for any public issue to merit White House attention and is a tougher requirement than most elected officials are required to meet to run for office. Changing this requirement to 3 months instead of the current 1 month would both make the system fairer and more open to public interest, and still uphold the requirement that only significant petitions get addressed.
