The Star Spangled Banner, as most know, has been the official anthem for the United States of America since 1931. Having been played by the military, sporting events, school, etc. the anthem is a source of pride for many.
What many do not know are the remaining verses to the song, especially the verbiage that speaks to the killing of slaves or at that time, "property".
As a "free" nation and one that lauds itself on the principles of Bill of Rights and being the most powerful nation in the world, there are still artifacts floating around this great nation that argue against the previous stated principles.
To move forward as a nation and to show growth, change, and maturity, modifying or replacing the Star Spangled Banner (written by a slave owner) would be a great first step.
