The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
It is our belief that this amendment is currently outdated, ill-defined, and unintended in light of technological advances that have made arms more prevalent and deadly. More than this, however, is the unexpected and unfortunate reality of said arms being used not in self-defense but with intent to harm or kill other fellow American citizens. Many Americans do not own firearms due to choice or other reasons and are thus unable to reasonably defend against such a threat.
We ask President Obama and our Congress to draft a modification to the Second Amendment to better protect ourselves from each other.
