Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a serious mental disorder affecting seratonin levels in the brain, but not enough research has been done to be positive that this is the cause of the debilitating disease. It is composed of two parts; obsessions (intrusive, disturbing thoughts), and compulsions (repetitive actions meant to keep the obsessions at bay). Not enough is known about the disorder, and there is not much in the way of a cure, only medicines to minimize the effects such as Zoloft or Prozac (SSRIs). Approximately 3% of America is affected, and OCD raises suicide rates. More research needs to be done to find out the cause and discover a cure to this disease.
