Motorcycle manufacturers should be required to include basic safety controls such as anti-lock brakes (ABS), in motorcycles. Currently sports bikes manufactured by Yamaha, Honda, and other vendors do not include the ABS feature. ABS prevents the wheels from locking and the motorcycle from skidding when sudden pressure is applied to the brakes.
According to the Highway Data Loss Institute, the rate of fatal crashes per 10,000 registered vehicle years was 37 percent lower for motorcycles equipped with optional ABS than for those same motorcycles without ABS. It's time to require all motorcycle manufacturers to implement this basic safety feature, before other lives are needlessy lost.
