Wherein we petition the Obama administration to support moving Election Day from the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November to the first full weekend of November. The purpose of this petition being to encourage more Americans to participate in the voting process and to decrease conflicts between voting and everyday obligations. Our suggestion is to open the polls the morning of the first Saturday in November and close the polls the evening of the first Sunday in November. Given that most Americans work a Monday through Friday schedule, moving the vote to the weekend and doubling the time polls remain open can only improve the participation level in our country and more accurately reflect our nation's values.
