Every two years millions of Americans are forced to lose out on their constitutional right to vote because the elections are held on a strange day that seems to make no sense. The U.S. originally decided to hold elections on the first Tuesday in November in 1845 to give rural farmers time to travel to polling centers on Monday. At that time this may have been an innovative over 150 years ago but today it doesn't make much sense. Many Americans start their daily commute before or right after polling centers open and do not get out of work very near or after they close meaning that their voices are not heard simply because they are working 9-5. By moving election day to a Saturday we can ensure that millions of Americans can finally have a say in our political system.
