While we all wish to respect the founding of our nation, celebrating Independence day on July 4th causes the Federal holiday to sometimes fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, creating an interruption to business during the work week; impeding the ability of some workers to celebrate the holiday (as they have to work the day before and the day after), and creating a safety issue as citizens rush back home late at night after staying up late to watch fireworks displays, celebrating out in the summer heat, and (often) drinking alcohol. Therefore, for the safety of our citizens, enhancement of our dedication to family togetherness, and to help American commerce have four contiguous days of productivity, we should declare that independence day be celebrated on the first Friday in July.
