Move Independence Day to the first Thursday in July, creating an annual 4-day celebration, similar to Thanksgiving.

Created by J.B. on July 21, 2014

Currently, American Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th. This creates scheduling issues as the date moves to a different day of the week each year.

By fixing Independence Day to a set day of the week (such as Thursday) we could create a consistent 4-day holiday, similar to Thanksgiving.

This change would make it easier for employers to plan time off, for municipalities to schedule events, and for families to arrange celebrations.
