Marijuana does not meet #1 and #2 requirements. With further research and statistics, it is the belief, that over time, it will fail to meet the #3 requirement of a schedule 1 drug.
Schedule 1 drugs are those that have the following findings:
1. The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
2. The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
3. There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision
Current research proves #2 is incorrect. Marijuana has medicinal and therapeutic properties. Studies suggest a small percentage of the population will become addicted, and the withdrawals would be very mild, less that that of nicotine, thereby failing to meet the #1 requirement.
