Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year and traditionally falls near the end of November when winter storms are common. Having a Thanksgiving earlier in the year could avoid travel during winter storms which is inconvenient and dangerous. The second week of October could be a good alternative date for Thanksgiving as this would align with Canadian Thanksgiving and winter storms are unlikely in early October.
The Thanksgiving traditions of families gathering for turkey dinner, football and parades could all continue in early October.
