On the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1919, the guns fell silent, ending the most horrific, brutal carnage the world had thus far seen.
While many individual nations, including the USA, entered the war with clear objectives, it was a war begun with no clear goals or reason, war for the sake of war. It devastated several nations, destroyed an entire generation of young men and changed the map of Europe forever.
It is altogether proper that we honor and thank our nation's veterans. We should do so on August 14, the anniversary of the day we learned in 1945 that Japan had surrendered.
We urge you to again make November 11 Armistice Day, to remember its lesson: That we best honor our veterans by vowing not to produce them needlessly.
