Michigan is one of the only states in it's region that does not have a Good Time Program; since 1998 when Michigan voted the Truth in Sentencing into effect this states prisoners have been doing 125% of their time. As of now Michigan uses 20% of the states budget. That's unheard of in any other states in the United States! For a budget to be so great you would think Michigan offers college courses, trade programs, or job training for inmates to be able to be productive when they reenter society. Recidivism, behavior and the budget is higher than any other state surrounding Michigan. By reimplementing Good Time to the Michigan Department of Corrections it would boost prisoners morals, cut down on assaults and the budget would be lessened greatly.
