Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey were accused, tried, and convicted of a crime that they did not commit. The Manitowac Police Department had charged Steven Avery in a previous rape. After spending 18 years in prison they found Steven Avery not guilty of the rape of when DNA could finally be tested. Approximately 2 years later Stephen Avery was charged in a second murder along with his nephew Brendan Dassey. After 2 long trials and a mountain of evidence that the Manitowac Police Department setup and framed Brendan and Steven in the murder they were convicted and given life sentences nonetheless.
