Exactly 70 years ago today, America, and her Navy, was irrevocably changed-2,402 people lost their lives and another 1,247 were injured. There is no ship more synonymous with the “Day that Will Live in Infamy” than the USS Arizona. In honor of the 70th anniversary of her destruction, and in light of the impending centenary of her namesake state on 14 February, 2012, there is no more appropriate time to name a vessel after the USS Arizona. There can be no more fitting tribute, not only to the many who lost their lives aboard Arizona, but to all those who lost their lives on 7 December, than to return to the sea, a vessel bearing the name of this famous victim of the attack. Once more, as it was when she entered service, let the most powerful naval vessel in the world bear the name Arizona.
