The name USS Ranger has been a Naval tradition from the beginning of country. John Paul Jones commanded the first USS Ranger during the Revolutionary War. It was commissioned on June 14, 1777, the same day the Stars and Stripes became our flag. There have been several others since then. Including the first ship designed as an aircraft carrier.
The latest USS Ranger, CV-61, has been decommissioned and is heading to the scrap yard. Please instruct the Sec. of the Navy to reuse this name and carry on the tradition of 238 years of service to our country.
