Since congress is primarily responsible for our current debt situation, and gridlock ensues in Washington without end. I propose that we should act immediately to force a mandatory marginal tax rate of 75% on all house representatives and senators until the national debt is paid off. The tax revenues collected are to be applied directly to our national debt and nowhere else. Although this is a trivial amount compared to our national debt, it is a start and it serves to ensure that congress' interests are aligned with those of the American people. Afterall, these elected officials are in service to our country, and should be held responsible for their profligate spending.
