On May 4th 1970 students at Kent State gathered in protest against US involvement in the Vietnam war. Four unarmed students were killed when they were fired upon by the National Guard . Our right as free citizens to be able to gather together in protest is paramount to maintaining our democracy. We should have a national holiday that honors and calls attention to our rights of freedom of assembly . It should be a day that serves as a reminder that we have that right and, that it should be kept intact , discussed, and passed down to our posterity as a means of the citizenry participating in a free and democratic society.
