After a decade of unfunded wars, failed fiscal policy, and a crippling financial catastrophe, the US enters the second decade of the new millennium with a millstone around her neck–the debt and the deficit. These challenges loom as mountains before us, standing in the way of a new American Century. However, neither have to be. The US is producing record levels of domestic oil to the point that this country is now a net exporter of oil. Were the US were to nationalize domestic oil production (as our neighbors to the north and south have), we would be able to ensure the fiscal sustainability and viability of this great country for generations to come. Only when Americans control their own resources will they be truly energy independent.
