Our Federal Reserve is currently not actually Federal. Therefore it is not under the control of the American people. As a result the American people are incapable of printing their own money, controlling their own debt, much of it is currently owned by the Federal Reserve itself.
If we were to take control of the Federal Reserve, then we could potentially eliminate much of the US debt, and regain the ability to print out own money.
