The United States and Mexico are the only countries of the 34 members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that do not have universal health care, yet the United States spent $8,508 per person on health care in 2011, over 2.5 times the average spent by member countries of the OECD ($3,322 per person). In 2014, the Commonwealth Fund ranked the United States last in overall health care.
No one in the U.S., should go without health care. Universal health care would stop medical bankruptcies, improve public health, reduce overall health care spending, and help small businesses. Health care should be an essential government service.
