Petroleum has become a national necessity rather than a luxury and the petroleum industry recognizes this fact and consistently uses its quasi-monopoly to reap excessive profits at the expense of the American people and the American economy. The only way to end the petroleum industry's price-setting and collusion would be to nationalize the entire industry as is done in many countries throughout the world.
