Nationally replace the “marriage license” with a legally equivalent “domestic partnership” license which would from then on be the new requirement for everyone in America pursuing a spousal partnership. This should ease the concerns of the religious about defending the concept of marriage, as well as removing legal discrimination against those who don’t qualify under the religious restrictions of the traditional marriage license.
